On second thought: Is this really meant to work?

The fbdev must do some probing, which requires a minimum of
register-fiddling. Also, some cards (especially ones that are secondary
and not initialized by the BIOS) are evetually POSTed, BEFORE fbcon
kicks in and issues a mode-switch.

Doing all that when X is running will lead to problems....

(And using the fbdev as a module is sick anyway, IMHO)
