I've been calling for us to move away from CVS since 2004. You can find
this in the mailing list archives if you like. I have no issue with
moving away from CVS.
I have an issue with moving to got, today, unilaterally, by surprise.
As for the investigations, you might be interested to know that people
were investigating alternatives such as GNU Arch/tla/baz as far back as
2004, Subversion earlier than that, and more recently, darcs and hg. I
don't know if monotone, rosegarden and bzr-ng have been looked into at
all, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Daniel, who maintains several X trees in darcs (but isn't proposing
darcs for general X use)
