Option "Device" and the evdev driver

Hello!

I am just trying to set up a Xorg system using the evdev input device
driver. When reading through `man evdev` I came across the following
passage:

Option "Device" "string"
[...]
Please note that use of this option is strongly discouraged.

Can somebody explain to me why one shouldn't use this option? What is
preferred then? (Options "Phys"?)
