Unable to fetch git from git scripts...

I was following the directions here:

http://wiki.x.org/wiki/ModularDevelopersGuide

specifically the portion using the git_xorg.sh script.

When it tries to fetch the xserver module it fails with:

fatal: unexpected EOF
fetch-pack from 'git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/./xserver' failed.
Checking files out...) 

Also, I don't know if this is important but I get a ton of these messages:

cloning util/xmkmfB/s)      
[: 68: ==: unexpected operator

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
