Window size and screen resolution

DDD and NEdit are both Motif-based, so I'd guess that you haven't
changed the default font used by Motif. In either (or both) of
~/.Xdefaults and ~/.Xresources, add e.g.

*fontList:	-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-16-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1
