nv problems on FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE for AMD64

I've made some progress on this. I wrapped these while loop calls in
calls to xf86Msg. Looking at the logs, I've determined that the first
while loop is the problem. The driver starts it and never returns. It
will successfully complete the loops numerous times but eventually it
will get stuck in the first one and hang.

Can anybody tell me what:

while(READ_GET(pNv) != pNv->dmaPut);

is supposed to be doing?
