Typing problem (as opposed to a keyboard problem)

Hello,
I've been suffering a problem the last few days. I rebooted my
machine last Thursday. Ever since in X I can't type any letters,
numbers or symbols using the main part of my bog standard 105 key
keyboard. The keypad work in both modes. Caps Locks, Control, Shift,
the 'Windows' key, Alt etc all work. I can't type my login into GDM. I
can't type into xterms or Text Edit. I've tried at GDM, in Gnome and in
TWM all with the same results. I'm sure it's X that is the problem.
Everything works fine from the command line outside of X.

xev shows events for the mouse and the working keys but not for the main
letters, numbers or symbols.

It's like it is in a keypad mode. I've tried all sorts, including
taking my KVM out of the equation. To no avail.

Any ideas?

This is my xorg.conf which basically hasn't change since the install of
FC6:
