Difficulty compiling xorg

I am following the procedure to compile xorg manually,
http://wiki.x.org/wiki/CompileXserverManually
but stumble upon the drm autogen.sh step....

I am running Ubuntu Edgy with

autoconf 2.60
automake 1.9.6 (Had to install this separately since Edgy comes with 1.4-p6)
perl v5.8.8
m4 1.4.4
libtool 1.5.22

any hints? Please? :-)
