That's odd, as the driver doesn't deal with backing store directly other
than initializing it. Maybe the radeon driver gets that part wrong.

Please file a bug at http://bugs.freedesktop.org .


Meanwhile, the method described by Glynn should be a better solution, as
most X servers probably won't have backing store enabled anyway.
