BTW: pre-xkb support in xserver is quite bitrotting.  Wouldn't
it be better to remove it altogether?  Who needs it anyway?

Meanwhile, I tracked down the reason why I couldn't use XKB on my X
server.  It seems the xkeyboard-config configure defaults don't match
the xserver defaults, so the installed files couldn't be found.
I had to reconfigure with:

 --with-xkb-base=${prefix}/share/X11/xkb --with-xkb-rules-symlink=xorg

And it's a little weird that this module is still being maintained in CVS.
Could you move it to git, please?
