There's a bug affecting i815 chipsets [1] that can be worked around by adding "VideoRam 440320" and setting Depth to 16 in xorg.conf [2]. Apparently this workaround is the only thing needed to run compiz on that hardware. It would be cool if it could be fixed at the driver lever so that compiz works out the box without requiring a customized xorg.conf.
