As mentioned above I also got several probs with xf86-video-intel and
interlaced modes and newer intel chipsets.

The best chipsets for this purpose still appear to be the i810 and i815.
But maybe things did change with newer xf86-video-intel releases. I haven't
tried yet.

unfortunately no. Maybe they just don't support interlaced modes?
