[Intel] Modeline ignored - X fails with "Output TMDS-1 enabled but has no modes"

During startup of my Mac Mini (intel 945 chipset) the modelne supplied
by xorg.conf is seemingly ignored if the connected HDTV is in standby
(note that this functionality is required to support wake-on-alarm
when the machine is unattended). Can anybody shed any light on why the
supplied modeline is not being used?

The xorg config and log files are attached below with 'Option
"ModeDebug" "YES"' applied. Note that the supplied modeline is never
even referenced in the log file.

If this isn't the correct forum for asking such questions or if I
should log a report via Bugzilla then please let me know.
