Question about unicode ranges in X fonts (TrueType)

Hi,

Please target fontconfig and pango (or the equivalent QT lib) for any software
with i18n text/font needs. They've been written precisely for this and are
standard on all *nix systems (and are starting to see win32 deployments).
Fedora has already started for a few releases to reduce the XLFD perimeter :
new fonts (typically, the complex Opentype fonts you want to query) are not
declared as XLFD anymore, old traditional XLFD fonts are not installed by
default (breaking all the apps that assumed they'd be available forever and
did not test for them).

By the time you've finished development, I'd expect enterprise distributions
such as RHEL to follow suit.

Regards,
