Hi all,

Since we're coming up towards the end of the month, it's time to start
the process of preparing the next release. I'm hoping to get it knocked
out this weekend.

There's two particularly good pieces of news for this release. dannya
contributed 1100 pieces from an SVG icon theme he has developed. These
are available under both the LGPL and Public Domain, with no
logos/trademarks. This compliments Brisgeek's icon work and will no
doubt help many theme artists to come.

The other piece of good news is that Uraeus of the public domain flag
project contacted me regarding adding those to the mix. That project
was the original inspiration for this project so this is good news. I
think they had nearly completed the set of flags, but we can take up
where they left off and begin accepting flag contributions directly.

One thing I think that will bring value to users of the flags is to
apply our metadata approach, and mark certain flags with keywords that
will allow them to be filtered against. Specifically, certain flags are
either illegal or offensive in some places (or are unofficial or
historical), so I think our metadata work will pay off in allowing those
users to extract "clean" flag packages, without forcing them to maintain
flag collections of their own.

The catch though, is that while author/title information is available
for each of the flags, they are not recorded in the SVG metadata we
use. In order for us to include them in this upcoming release, we need
to process these flags and add the metadata. I think this could be done
fairly easily with a perl script to parse the info from the flags and
use SVG::Metadata to insert it into the flag .svg file, but I won't have
time to do that this weekend -- could someone take this task of creating
this script this weekend?

Bryce
