Those are stored in the temp_directory set in the .cfg, currently here:
/srv/clipart.freedesktop.org/temp

Other things are stored there as well, all of them temporary in
nature.  My suggestion would be to just clean out anything older than
when the files were pulled for the last release, and leave the rest
for the time being, "just in case", unless there is a drive space
shortage.  However, it *should* (famous last words) be safe to remove
anything older than a day or so from that directory, as it is not
intended to be a long-term storage location for anything.

It would be possible (easy, even) to designate a separate temp
directory for just the screenshot scripts to use, if there were a
desire for that, e.g., if we wanted to clean out its kruft more often
than that of other things.
