Definitely anti-aliasing is used.

The SVG specification mention the viewer may disable anti-aliasing 
(http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/painting.html#ShapeRenderingProperty) but I 
suspect this is not implemented by viewers (there is at least one open 
request for Inkscape to support it).
