Yeah, at this point pkg-config is easy to override -- the .pc files are 
quite brief, and you can change the search path with the PKG_CONFIG_PATH 
environment variable.  I say "at this point", because diligence is 
required to ensure that pkg-config *doesn't* become imake with significant 
package depencies built right into the configuration tool.
