Scalable fonts

Hi,

I am developing an embedded application that has to display big numbers
(Helvetica size 70).  I have been running it so far in my linux desktop
computer, and the numbers are diplayed nicely.

The problem arises when I try to execute the app in the host hardware,
which runs a minimal linux distribution with kdrive.  There are some pcf
fonts, and the numbers whose size correspond to one of the fonts are
displayed correctly.  But the big numbers are displayed in a very ugly
way.

How can I use scalable fonts with kdrive?
