Obviously one would sync this in a similar fashion to 1/3 but as-is

Please don't forget the "check if this doesn't explode on {old,new}
{kernel,userspace} combos" from earlier.
If you haven't already, you might want to mention why its safe in the
commit message of the kernel patch.
