I guess the specification/API could be ported to a different BUS or no BUS at
all (mere library). However the main concern of the spec is to allow different
applications based on different libraries running on the same desktop to
access a common secret storage. This requires common means of communicating.
And as D-BUS provides such a communication facility, is wide-spread and seems
to be the major desktops' bus-of-choice we'll be concentrating on it.
This doesn't mean implementations are banned from providing other ways to
interoperate (eg. Keyring currently implements its own socket-based approach)
or even provide the same API on a different bus.
Regards,
Michael
