[avahi] Test for Avahi

I am the author of owfs (a Dallas 1-wire software suite) www.owfs.org

I've tried to support Avahi and Bonjour for a while now, but found problems
testing if support is available. I use Avahi to announce the presence and
address of a 1-wire server and web server.

What I try to do is dynamically load the Avahi library and test if Avahi is
present. Sometimes this causes a segfault. Is there a safe way to test?
