+Since cairo is a Free Software project, we do want everyone to feel
+that they can join and be a part of the community. However, when
+hosting an event like this there are limits to how many people can
+reasonably be accommodated. Also, Mozilla is planning on providing
+travel expenses for several attendees, so [Cairo Summit 2008](..) is
+currently an "invitation only" event.
+
+But we're generally quite free with our invitations. For example, we
+went through the git logs and invited the most active contributors to
+cairo. So if you would like to attend, but haven't been invited yet,
+it's possible we just missed your name somehow. Please drop an email
+to Carl Worth and we'll see if we can't get you invited to the summit.
+
+For invited attendees, we really do need to know as soon as possible
+if you will be able to attend, and what travel assistance you will
+need. For example, some attendees have employers supporting their
+cairo work that will be quite willing to fund the trip. If so, please
+let us know. Other people are doing cairo development on their own
+time and won't be able to come without travel assistance. That's fine
+too and we want to make sure everyone can come. So we'll assume that
+you'll be needing travel assistance unless you've indicated
+otherwise. (And we'll find out as soon as possible how that travel
