[cairo] Good news/bad news on OS X

I have some experience with that, as I yesterday made sure that the GLX
backend worked in OSX. GL uses native byte-order and libic always uses
MSB byte-order. 

As long as you do not pull pixels apart it should work fine. Image, xlib
and glx backends works fine for me (off course the xlib and glx backends
requires that X11 is installed). 

My guess is that there might be some problem with unpremultiplying
pixels when writing the png.
