[cairo] undefined reference to `_cairo_surface_get_image'

this is what it says when i run configure (sh configure --prefix=/usr
--sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var)
cairo will be compiled with the following surface backends:
Xlib: yes
Quartz: no
XCB: yes
Win32: no
PostScript: yes
PDF: yes
PNG: yes
glitz: no (temporarily disabled while code is out of sync)
moreover if i use --disable-glitz this is what it says me
cairo will be compiled with the following surface backends:
Xlib: yes
Quartz: no
XCB: yes
Win32: no
PostScript: yes
PDF: yes
PNG: yes
glitz: no
and the following font backends:
FreeType: yes
Win32: false
ATSUI: no
on both situations i got the same output
