[cairo] gtkcairo updated for cairo 0.5.0?

I've just downloaded the 0.5.0 snapshot and tried to update my API
calls.  It turns out that I am using gtkcairo, which AFAICT has not been
ported (or at least there has been no cvs activity for a while).

I also read somewhere that gtkcairo was a temporary solution, lasting
until gtk and cairo consummate their merger.

How should I proceed?  Is there a recommended alternative to gtkcairo
now?  I use it only once to set up my main widget and hook up a paint
callback - that's pretty much it.
