yourself ("BitBlit") instead of using cairo operators
(they support more than that, for example you can cut
out certain parts ..).

However, the idea is to render only animated parts and
then compose them with the static parts onto the
top-level drawable.

However, this requires that composition is
hardware-accelerated.  If not, this approach might be
slower than drawing everything.
