That sounds like it might be this bug:

	Some characters aren't displayed when using xlib (cache usage missing freeze/thaw)
	https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6955

I've posted a working patch there, but want to re-work it slightly
before pushing it out.
