Like Carl already suggested, the actual compositing code may be lifted
form GEGL.  A 16-bit float implementation would be needed too.  I'm
pretty sure code for that can be found around the net too.  I remember
Qt adding support for this format a while ago, but I couldn't find the
link for it in my five minute Google search.
