That's almost exactly what I ended up using:

*) args[${#args[*]}]="$arg"

So I used [*] instead of [@] (just because that's what the first  
Google result I found on appending to an array showed me; I think  
they're equivalent for finding the length of an array), and I didn't  
think to add the ;; to the end.
