[cairo] pdf analysis

I work for a commercial printer and have a client using cairo to create pdf files for print.
The problem is nothing I try can give an accurate analysis of the file. Specifically, image resolution.
It seems that images are treated as pattern fills within the pdf. In print, we need resolutions of 240 ppi - 300 ppi,
and I need to be able to tell what the resolutions are in order to advise clients if the files that they send are
acceptable or not.

If there are any pdf editing/analysis utilities available that will pick apart and see the images as images in files created by Cairo,
that would be of some help.

If Cairo strips the image information out in the pdf creation, it would be more helpful if it did not.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

KBlack
