He may have just rounded up to the next power of 2 (a reasonable thing
to do when choosing the size of fixed-length arrays in ram).

OTOH, I beleive I recall a note on the gs list that they have seen
DeviceNs with that many tints (or was it 24?) in actual use in the wild.
