Why shouldn't Cygwin be used?  There is no conflict between having
Cygwin installed (to allow use of make, shell, etc.), while compiling
with MSVC.

WebKit uses a Cygwin-driven build system that does not use the native
Cygwin compiler.  It works fine, although CMake is far easier for new
users than getting a typical Windows developer to modify the
Cygwin.bat file to incorporate the MSVC paths into its PATH
environment variable.
