[cairo] Spanish ñ problems

when  I draw lines and write text, if the TEXT  has "ñ" the lines disappear.
 Will I  need to SET language ??
I am not in C language, I am using a binding  to Freebasic
I will try in NIM language in the future....
The Compiler is based on Gcc ...64 bits
Do I need to SET something?, or Cairo does not support
Spanish characters??
