AI == PDF in the same sense that Inkscape == XML. Unless Adobe
Illustrator users have chosen special PDF compatability options when
saving, you cannot view the files using standard PDF viewers.

Skencil or Inkscape using Skencil indirectly. Inkscape does not have
built in support for Adobe Illustrator and I think it is important to make
it clear so that no one gets the wrong idea.
I believe the old AI format had a similiar relationship to EPS as the
current format does to PDF.
