It should be strictly additive.  Since root already has access it's just
a no-op.  It certainly shouldn't affect any other ACLs the devices may
get assigned.  I'm not aware of anything that will behave incorrectly
based on the presence of an ACL rather than just POSIX permissions, but
the ocean of software is wide and deep, and there may be kraken lurking
there.
