[colord] Missing devices in colour settings (gnome 3.2)

OK but what I don't understand is that when I select the profile
(generated by the ArgyllCMS tools) under gnome settings, the *entire*
screen darkens - including the RawTherapee window and any photos it is
displaying. (Presumably this is because what was being displayed as
"red" previously was really light/bright red.) So why does RawTherapee
need a setting? Or any other app?

 (Excuse me for drifting OT with respect to colord - my issues are
mostly about understanding CM - but you've been helpful!)
