I can completely understand and support Richard's move to an
alternative to autotools. We on the Scribus team called them autohell.

The choice of the language of the build tool are really not relevant.

We on the Scribus team converted to cmake which is C++. There is no
need to know C++ to use Cmake.

What I have seen of meson seems favorable and many GTK/GNOME projects
are migrating owing to its simplcity.

Just my $0.02

Cheers,

Peter
