[compiz] Sane value for Number of Desktops?

You're probably talking about viewports, which isn't really related to
this thread about max desktops. There's no plugin that implements
desktop switching effects yet, afaik. If you want to use a 2x4 layout of
viewports, give the plane plugin a try. It's a replacement for the cube
plugin.
