Have you tried building with that patch now?  That was (at least partly
caused by) a bug in the Red Hat internal build system that I got them to
fix.

I thought the real cause of this bug was fixed by:

2005-05-08  Havoc Pennington  <hp at redhat.com>

	* dbus/dbus-sysdeps-util.c (_dbus_become_daemon): write the
	daemon's pid, not the parent's pid, to the file descriptor.
