There isn't a formula - it depends on what you are doing.

There are docs on the specific tags in "man dbus-daemon"

To debug it you usually want to set up a bus with DBUS_VERBOSE=1 in the 
environment and output redirected to a log file.

Make sure you send -HUP to the bus after changing the file so it reloads 
the config.
