Newbie question about dbus-send and dbus-monitor

Hi
    With syslog, we can watch messages with `tail -f /var/log/messages`
and we can send a test syslog with `logger hello_world`.

Could someone reply to this post with the dbus equivalent of the above
syslog commands?  This might be something along the lines of ...

dbus-monitor --system &

dbus-send .....


Guess I'm looking for a simple command line demonstration of dbus.
