Also figured out what to do in the interim until we have infrastructure
(hopefully upstart) for tracking sessions, see the bug details. 

Having talked to Richard (g-p-m maintainer) about this many times, my
impression is that he wants to fix it too so I'm hopeful we'll get this
done within a month or two. Should be able to do the "set these settings
as default" too, that'll require stuff like PolicyKit to use a helper to
copy preferences over. That's doable though, I plan to finish PolicyKit
pretty soon.
