And why allow the problem to exist in the first place?

By using a private connection in the first place, the problem can't exist.

More to the point, the library doing this still won't work, but at least 
the private connection won't be adversely affected (paths showing that 
shouldn't be showing, receiving messages that will never be handled, 
etc.)
