signals on the bus

I have a question concerning the lifespan of a message on the bus.

If I have an app that runs and periodically sends a message that is of
signal type and nothing picks it up. What happens to that message? Does
it just sit around on the bus. Does it just get dropped since nothing is
registered to process that signal?

If the message just sits around is there a way to say, after 10 seconds
this message should expire and be removed?

Thanks,

Kevin
