[patch] Check for -Wl,--gc-sections

Havoc mentioned I should try using --gc-sections to reduce the size of
the setuid binary.

without patch:

1.2M unstripped
540K stripped

with patch:

928K unstripped
284K stripped

Please review attached patch which adds detection to the configure
script.

I'll be "drip feeding" other additions and cleanups to the list today
rather than just submit a mega-patch as I think little patches are
easier (and hopefully quicker) to review. Thanks.
