It's much too late for this. A wire protocol change would force any OS
update going from old to new dbus to reboot immediately, for example
(since the system bus can't restart) and require logout/login
immediately as well (due to the session bus). The current wire
protocol is widely deployed as well, so to the extent anyone has
figured out how to share a session bus between local and remote X apps
(for LTSP for example), that would break if involved machines weren't
running the same version. These are only the obvious breakages, there
are likely to be unexpected ones as well.

The bottom line is that dbus 1.0 committed to stable protocol, and we
need to stick to that.
