FYI, I have an open bug about changes related to that not building on OSX:

I've put up fresh versions of all the patches, cleaned up, and tested
by a few fink users and myself (10.4 and 10.5, x86 and PPC) and
everything appears to be working fine.  Thanks for all the
help/feedback.
