"Adversarial" is in the eye of the beholder :)

Anyway, thanks for the detailed description of why we feel the decision
is correct.  My goal in asking for real, working patches was to have the
people who do not feel that this is a correct design decision, learn
that it really is correct by doing work the work that shows this is
true.

Usually, just telling someone that they are wrong doesn't work as well
as having them learn it on their own, which is the main reason that you
don't see Linux kernel developers do lots of "design discussions",
working code usually shows things much better in the end.
