So I updated the machine, rebooted and now I see notify-send seems to
work properly, even though no DBUS* variable is set in my environment.
Is that ok?

- displays the box with asdf text) I did:
cat /proc/$$/environ
But there's no DBUS*

Yes, the intention of the script was to be able to use notifications
from screen. I guess I have this from here
http://machine-cycle.blogspot.com/2010/12/ssh-and-dbus-sessions.html
If doing it this way is not right, how to do this properly? I'm using
notify-send for various programs running inside screen, e.g. mutt,
finch, twinkle.
